Finally!! North to Alaska! Got gone at 10:00 a.m. and headed up Hwy.
60. Rain off and on with temperature
ranges of 59-100*. Arrived at Lake Mead
RV Village near Boulder City NV at about 2:45 p.m. Took a walk in the evening to see the lake
and then played Buraco (an Italian card game Steve & Mary taught us that we
are addicted to!).
Drove both rigs over
to the state’s Emission Test Site and got each emissions tested. Back home to finalize our packing and get the
house ready for being gone all summer. (Background:
our AZ tags were scheduled to expire on 8/15/23 and both rig and car needed to
have emissions tests since they were now five years old. We did extensive calling, stopping at
agencies, etc. to figure out how to do this since online renewals could not be
done more than 90 days in advance when emissions tests are required. Thought we had it all figured out. More on that later….)
About a year ago, our little gang at Happy
Trails RV Resort starting talking about RVing to Alaska again. Mary, John & I had all lived up there for
years, Steve had gone up a long time ago, Ed & Nancy had RV’d up in 2019,
and Johnny O and Mary had never been. We
got a little more serious about the planning in the spring, ordered Mileposts
and set some tentative dates. Since
everyone was going to be leaving from different locations (John & I from
AZ, Steve & Mary from the Pacific NW, Ed & Nancy from MN and Johnny O
& Mary from SD), we decided to meet in Dawson Creek BC, Canada on June 11.
